A Jazz Worship Experience on the Third Sunday of Every Month
Founded in 2015 at First Congregational Church in Concord, NH, Jazz Sanctuary is an inclusive, monthly jazz-based worship and performance experience that welcomes people of all faiths and none. Combining live music, spoken word, and community spirit, it celebrates creativity as a path to connection, joy, and reflection.
What makes Jazz Sanctuary unique is its open, low-pressure atmosphere. You don’t need to “do” church, know any rituals, or hold particular beliefs to feel at home here. The focus is on experiencing music, storytelling, and moments of reflection in a relaxed environment—not on doctrine or expectations. Many people come simply because they love music, appreciate the chance to pause and breathe, or are looking for a warm, welcoming community space where art and meaning intersect.
Each gathering features top-notch live music woven with themes that speak to everyday life—hope, gratitude, resilience, compassion. You’re invited to listen, reflect, or just enjoy the moment. Whether you’re spiritually curious, culturally rooted, or simply seeking something different to enrich your month, Jazz Sanctuary offers an experience that nourishes the heart through the universal language of music.
The Jazz Sanctuary House Band is the musical heartbeat of every Jazz Sanctuary gathering. Composed of seasoned and versatile musicians, the band blends artistry, improvisation, and creative expression to shape an atmosphere that is both deeply engaging and warmly reflective. Their sound moves effortlessly from soulful and contemplative to energetic and uplifting—always guided by each month’s theme and the spirit of the moment.
More than a backing group, the House Band is an integral part of the Jazz Sanctuary experience. They help guide the flow of the service, respond intuitively to spoken reflections, and invite the audience into a shared musical journey. Whether reimagining beloved jazz standards, exploring more modern music, or crafting spontaneous improvisations, the band brings an unmistakable blend of skill, heart, and hospitality that defines Jazz Sanctuary.
Beyond the monthly gatherings, the Jazz Sanctuary House Band is active throughout the greater community—playing outdoor summer concerts, providing entertainment for nonprofit organizations’ special events, and performing regularly at William & Son Coffee Co. to support Family Promise of Greater Concord, NH.
